Alabama

The Yellowhammer State is a Deep South state situated along the Gulf of Mexico between Mississippi and Georgia. It is sometimes called “the Heart of Dixie.” The stars of Southern cooking shine on Alabama. Ribs, sweet potato pie, fried chicken, fried green tomatoes, catfish, hush puppies, sweet tea, fried pies, pralines, oysters, shrimp, and chicken and dumplings are just a sampling of the down-home cooking you’ll find in the Heart of Dixie. The pecan is the official nut of Alabama. The blackberry is the official fruit, but the peach also receives recognition as the official “tree fruit.” Honey is a big product. Alabama ranks second in the nation in farmed catfish production. But the largemouth bass is the state’s official fresh-water fish.

About me:
I'm a California native currently residing in Alabama, and a soon-to-be culinary student! I love to cook, it's a treat to me, and I feel a sense of satisfaction when people enjoy the things that I cook and when they compliment me on my cooking skills. I try to use lower fat ingredients, and healthier meal selections, but more often than not, I end up tipping the caloric scale!

We have been making a version of this in my family for years...we use the little square dinner rolls and slice the package in half and we also use mozzerella cheese too...yum!

Cream Cheese Squares

Reviewed on Jun. 30, 2008 by Mallinda
I was amazed at how good these were. We had to try them before they were completely cool, and then we had some more later. We preferred them at room temperature--but don't get me wrong, they were good warm too, although a good bit runnier. I would make these again.
